Jane Morgan, longtime resident of Bellingham, died in Bellingham on October 19th from complications caused by cancer.
She is survived by her husband, Philip, her brother Theodore, her children Arthur, Melba Joy, Frank, and Floyd, and two grandchildren.
Jane was born Niagara Falls, NY, went to college at Wooster College, OH and then completed her graduate work at UC Berkeley, CA, earning a bachelor’s degree in History, a master’s degree in Library Science and a master’s degree in Education. She met her husband, Philip, at International House at UC Berkeley, and they were married for 57 years.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she also carried on her librarianship through most of her life, working for the Whatcom County Library System and organizing and running several church libraries. Early on, she taught elementary school in California, and later on she did some substitute teaching in Bellingham. She was active in Camps Farthest Out, We Care, her church, NW Library Association, fundraising for the YMCA, and was a past president of AAUW. Jane was an avid reader, and a lover of long walks. She loved to play bridge and solve jigsaw puzzles. She was up early every morning to read her Bible before getting on with her day.
Memorial services will be held at 2pm at Life Church Bayside in Bellingham on November 4th following a private burial on October 26th.
