Grace Garrett, age 99, passed away in Bellingham on January 26, 2018 surrounded by family. She was born in Detroit, MI on December 20, 1918. After graduating from high school in Detroit, she eventually worked as an executive assistant to the CEO of Chrysler, volunteered at the local hospital, then settled into life as an excellent homemaker.
Grace was regal, graceful, witty, intelligent, fun-loving, bright, loyal, cultured, wise, and child-like at times. She had an unforgettable smile and unqualified love for her family. She had a passion for exposing her family to art, literature, music, and theater. She enjoyed traveling with family, doing the NY Times crossword (in pen!), and organizing family game nights and museum and concert outings. Most of all, she loved being with her family and nurturing them with her love and zest for life.
Grace is predeceased by Orville, her beloved husband of 61 years and her son-in-law Lee McKinnon. She is survived by daughters Christine Garrett McKinnon; Nancy Jane Garrett (Jim Armstrong); and Martha Jane Garrett.
A Memorial Service will take place on Friday Feb. 2 at 11:30 AM at Moles Farewell Tributes (2464 Lakeway Dr. Bellingham), with a reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Whatcom Hospice Foundation (2901 Squalicum Parkway, Bellingham WA 98225) or The American Cancer Society (P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123).
