Obituary of Gerald "Ken" Olson

Gerald (Ken) Kenneth Olson, 75, of Marysville WA, passed away with his loved ones by his side on November 29th, 2017. Ken was a beloved husband, father, grandpa, coach, and friend. He was born December 31, 1941, in Bellingham WA.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth Olson and Wayne & Cleo (Vanderyacht) Parker.

A graduate of Monroe High School, he joined the armed services and was a proud Vietnam Veteran who served in the United States Marine Corps. Ken married his wife of almost 47 years, Susan Lynn (Davis), on December 12th, 1970 and they built a beautiful life together. He made a career of sharing his carpentry skills at Twin Rivers Correctional Complex in Monroe WA where he celebrated his retirement. Ken was a coach to many over the years, primarily girls fast-pitch softball, where he was fortunate to have coached with and made a lifelong friend in Lloyd Seibert. His greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted husband, father and beyond exceptional grandpa. 

Ken is survived by his loving wife Susan; his daughter, Rhonda (Bill) Chrisman; son, Ty (Kailyn) Olson and step-daughter Shari Farrens. Grandchildren Breonna (Aaron) West; Jessica (Kevin Johnson) Chrisman; Easton Chrisman; Rhye Schultz-Olson; Ryan Farrens and Rikki Johnson. He is also survived by his dear and loyal friend Rick Bradford, who was by his side through every step of his illness.

A Memorial Service will be held on December 31st, 2017 at Wild Fern Park, 5356 Mosquito Lake Rd, Deming WA 98224 at noon, followed by a potluck reception at the Whatcom County senior center on Mosquito Lake Rd.
