Memorial Day Events in Whatcom County

If you’re looking for events to enjoy during the memorial day weekend we’ve got you covered.

Festival of Flags

Veterans Farewell TributesThe Festival of Flags and Memorial Remembrance Day Ceremony is an event we host at our Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale that draws in nearly 2,000 members of the community. The flag flying is taken seriously and you’ll find there are over 1,300 flown to remember local and national veterans and fallen military heroes.

You’ll find something for the whole family to enjoy at this event from the Bellingham Pipe Band to children’s activities and the dove release which will surely amuse the little ones. You won’t go hungry either with free hot dogs and refreshments for everyone to enjoy. The festivities start at 12pm with the remembrance ceremony commencing at 2pm.

Ski to Sea Race and Fairhaven Festival

If you’re looking for more to keep you occupied over the long weekend and want to spend some time outside then the Ski to Sea Race and Fairhaven Festival is just the place to go. The race is quite the feat combining a number of different elements including running, canoeing, biking, kayaking, downhill skiing and cross-country skiing. This isn’t done by one person alone, it’s a team effort relay style where multiple people take turns to complete the entire race.

While it’s not possible to watch the whole race you can cheer them on at the finish line. The participants who range from elite athletes to those in it for fun would love the support at the end. It’s the finish line area where you’ll find the rest of the entertainment with live music, craft booths, food, and beer gardens. This is what’s referred to as the Fairhaven Festival and runs May 28 from 10am-7pm. There’s no way to describe this event is all it’s glory so you’ll just have to come and see for yourself!

Blossomtime Parade

Another part of the event we just talked about is the parade that happens during the weekend. It’s held between 12-2pm and suggested spots to view it are Gossage Garden and Alabama & Cornwall Avenue in Bellingham. It’s said to have a little bit of everything that you would want to see in a hometown style parade.

In conclusion, there are a number of different events to enjoy for Memorial Day weekend. While we would love to see you at our event to remember those who served for this country we also want you to have some fun out there too! From the entire team at Moles Farewell Tributes, we wish you a safe enjoyable Memorial Day weekend.
