The Importance of Family Ownership

Four generations of family ownership, serving our community with care, dignity, and integrity.

More Than 100 Years of Funeral Care for Whatcom County Provided By Moles Farewell Tributes

My great-grandfather was the first of the Moles family to be involved in caring for Whatcom County’s families. Originally, our family served only Ferndale families through Moles Funeral Home, but in the 1970’s, my grandfather, Robert Moles, purchased Jones Funeral Home in Bellingham and Greenacres Memorial Park north of Bellingham.

As longtime community members, my family and our staff have deep roots in Whatcom County. I speak to many in this community who have been served by my father, Bob Moles, or my grandfather.

It’s a special feeling to know that, for four generations, families in this community have turned to my family for care, comfort, and the highest level of professional service in times of their greatest need.

It’s a tradition that I have committed to uphold with all of my capabilities. I feel it to be, in many ways, a sacred trust. Our staff understands this at the heart level, and they are fully committed to providing the professional service and personal, attentive, empathetic care that has characterized our Moles Farewell Tributes for more than 100 years.

As a sign of our commitment to the communities we serve, Moles Farewell Tributes is the exclusive provider of the Farewell Satisfaction Guarantee . Our goal is to ensure that 100% of families we serve are 100% satisfied.

Our community. Our story.

Reflection upon the history of Moles Farewell Tributes calls to mind not only the history of a family business, but the history of a community. In countless ways, the stories of every family we have been privileged to serve represent the strands of a tapestry of lives intersecting, woven together. Remembering our past, we embrace the future, serving the community of Whatcom County for generations to come.

Ferndale

“Monroe Mortuary and Furniture Store” was established in 1897 by the Monroe family, who the Moles family partnered with to begin in the funeral business.

Our Ferndale funeral home remains the oldest “continuously operating” business in Ferndale.

Bayview Chapel – Bellingham

In 1902, “W.H. Mock Mortuary” was established on Elk (State) Street in Bellingham, soon to be joined by partner A.C. Harlow in 1913.

A new Harlow Mortuary Home was built in 1922, future location of Jones-Moles Funeral Home at the corner of Forest and Holly Streets in Bellingham. This building was sold to the YMCA in 1993 and serves as their Child Care Center today.

The following year, Jones-Moles Funeral Home opened a new facility adjacent to Bayview Cemetery, now our Bayview Chapel- Bellingham location.

Greenacres

Purchased in 1972 by Moles Family Funeral Homes, the Greenacres funeral home was constructed on the grounds of Greenacres Memorial Park in 1984. This was the first combination funeral home/cemetery north of Everett.

Greenacres Memorial Park

In 1929, Greenacres Memorial Park was opened as the first “Memorial Park” cemetery concept in Whatcom County.

Purchased in 1972 by Moles Family Funeral Homes, our Greenacres funeral home was then constructed on the grounds in 1984, making it the first combination funeral home/cemetery north of Everett.

The more recent additions of “Stillwaters Botanical Cremation Garden” in 2008 and “The Meadow” natural burial site in 2010 continue the tradition of providing many ways of remembering a loved one, within one beautiful place.

Crematory Center

Our private crematory, used exclusively by families served by Moles Farewell Tributes, now offers a modern gathering space, and an updated witness cremation viewing area.
