I was so sad to hear about my Aunt Ruth's passing. Her and Uncle Pat leave a legacy of strong dedication to their family.
I have many fond memories of large Mercer Family reunions, with plenty of good food, socializing, and some sports thrown in for good measure. Basketball and rec-room activities at the large Blaine house, my Dad, some uncles and the older cousins really getting an enthusiastic workout, followed by large amounts of great food inside! As my Mom has said, what a great role model of someone that worked hard and loved much.
Dear Family of Ruth: My thoughts are with you all at this difficult time. Ruth will always be remembered for her diligent work ethic and her insistence on improving her life style on the farm to modern conveniences. Personally, I am so grateful that she was able to convince Pat to install indoor plumbing, and then he taught my dad to do the same. I owe many thanks to Ruth for her role model of making things happen! Also, it was always amazing to see how she dedicated her life to her family and extended family by hosting parties, work projects and trips to many parts of the country. It was a marvel how she could balance a demanding job, keep a clean house, raise 4 kids and cook delicious meals as well as help Pat build houses. I have many memories of babysitting the 4 kids while she went to business school and the trip to CA and Mexico by car when I was 16. We will miss her as a role model.
