Dear family and friends of Jack Bowman:
As the Bowman Distinguished Professor of Leadership and the Director for the Karen W. Morse Institute for Leadership, I extend my deepest condolences to you on Jack's passing. I interacted with him only a few times, but each time I enjoyed being in his presence. He was kind and funny, dedicated and passionate. I appreciated his commitment to Western Washington University's students evident in his and JoAnn's endowment of the position that I now hold and the generosity of the scholarships that help literally dozens of students accomplish their educational goals each year.
The Institute for Leadership is dedicated to building students' leadership capabilities and graduates about 2 dozen minors in leadership each year, even though the "minor" is only a few years old. Further, we work with leadership programs across campus to provide additional opportunities to advance students' understanding and application of leadership in their lives. We also support students' global leadership capacity by supporting study abroad trips and developing opportunities accessible for those who cannot afford such trips.
None of this would have been possible without Jack and JoAnn's generosity of mind and spirit! Jack's legacy lives on in generations of students and I am deeply grateful for his foresight in creating a foundation for future leaders!
