Obituary of Marilyn Ann Methven
Marilyn passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Whatcom Hospice House. Born on October 8, 1936 to Clifford and Estelle Poole in Tacoma, WA., Marilyn graduated from Stadium High School. She attended WWSC where she met her husband Bruce. Married on 9/22/56 in Tacoma, after Bruce spent a brief stint in the service, they moved to Bellingham to start a family.
Marilyn spent almost her entire working career with the Bellingham Public School District. Starting at Whatcom Middle School, she went to Shuksan Middle School for a brief period before moving on to Larrabee Elementary School where she remained until she retired. Before she retired, she and her husband enjoyed playing cards with their friends and going to the Bellingham Yacht Club. After she retired, she enjoyed traveling with Bruce. Marilyn adored spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed taking them on picnics, playing games, and vacations out to Birch Bay. An avid mall walker, despite breaking both hips, Marilyn enjoyed spending time with her mall friends drinking hot chocolate and reminiscing. Marilyn enjoyed watching baseball and "men's" golf and her dear cat, Molly.
Marilyn attended St. James's Presbyterian Church.
Survived by her son Michael, daughter Cheryl (Jerry) Horner, grandchildren Haileigh (Erik), Grant (Jade), Kohl and Shea, nephews Bob (Sue), Scott (Kristin), niece Karen (Alex) and sister-in-law Carol. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, half brothers Rick and Art, nephew Jim and cousin Francis.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 8, at 10:00am at St James Presbyterian Church, 910 14th Street, Bellingham.
